All the latest information ahead of Fury vs Whyte for the WBC heavyweight title, including latest odds
Tyson Fury will defend the World Boxing Council heavyweight title against mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium on April 23, it has been confirmed.
Fury, who will be fighting in the United Kingdom for the first time since 2018, is set to earn £25 million from the all-British bout, while Whyte will receive £6 million after the sanctioning body ordered an 80-20 split of the purse.
Whyte, who has a record of 28 wins and two defeats, is yet to comment about the contest. Fury, undefeated in 32 contests and a two-time heavyweight world champion who has held all four belts, went into camp this week.
“Kindly respect my peace and privacy as I train like the Spartan I am for another world title defence. See you all at the press conference,” said Fury, who has since revealed that this fight would be his last.
Fury, who said he wanted to spend more time with his wife and six children, added: “This is the final fight of my career, I’m retiring after this. $150 million in the bank, healthy, young, I’m gonna buy a massive yacht abroad. I’m retiring, I’m out, this is my final fight, I’m done.”
Fury’s promoters Frank Warren and Bob Arum won the purse bid late last month, with Whyte signing the agreement for the contest in the early hours of 22 Feb, close to the deadline set by the WBC. Whyte is ranked the No 4 heavyweight in the world by the The Ring magazine, known as the “Bible of Boxing”. “
Tyson Fury coming home to fight under the arch at Wembley Stadium is a fitting reward for the No 1 heavyweight in the world following his exploits across the Atlantic in his epic trilogy against Deontay Wilder,” Warren said.
“The fact that this mandatory defence of his WBC title comes against another Brit only adds to the occasion. They are two of the biggest characters in British sport and both normally have plenty to say for themselves.
“It is going to be an incredible night and a huge occasion for sport in this country that will capture the imagination of fans right across the world.”
The fight will be broadcast on BT Sport Box Office. The press conference to publicise it is expected to be held in London next week.
