Frank Warren says rival promoter Eddie Hearn “has nothing to do” with
the Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte World Boxing Council heavyweight
title fight and that his comments are “confusing people”.
Warren, who is Fury’s promoter, said there was a concrete deadline for
the fight, set for April 23 in Cardiff or London, and that they would
“move on” after a $40million (£30million) winning purse bid on Jan 2.
He is awaiting a signed con tract from Whyte’s lawyers, with the
deadline this weekend. Whyte, the WBC mandatory challenger, has yet to
make a public comment.
Warren said: “It’s not what we want to happen, but yes, we would move
on. The WBC set the terms of the purse bid. From the day of the purse
bid, there were 21 days to lodge the contract, regardless of what
Eddie Hearn says.”
Fury is set to earn £25million for his defence of the WBC crown; Whyte
will earn £6million.
Warren said: “We’re not dealing with him, we’re dealing with Dillian
Whyte’s lawyer. He has no involvement, unless we’re told otherwise.
“As far as Hearn’s concerned, he sends a lot of stuff out that just
confuses people, the facts are the facts. He’s got nothing to do with
this. If he [Whyte] doesn’t sign, he’s out.”
