Mauricio Sulaiman on the running of the WBC
“This is a very uncertain time. Nobody expected this to happen. When it started hitting, we all thought it would be something that would go away easily. Now it’s worldwide and all sporting events and entertainment is shut down. The whole sporting world is suffering. Fans are suffering, there’s no comfort. I am certain things will start changing soon. Things will start getting back to normal in different ways. We’re trying to make sure the promoters, the champions and the challengers are paying attention, stay humble and have a strong conviction to make sure nothing is done wrong. We want them to be comfortable. We’re going to work with the promoters and the networks. We’re going to look at every mandatory. We hope the whole world will go back to the normal activities soon.”
Champions will have mandatories
“We have to look at every aspect and situation independently. We’re going to have a complete open criteria to ensure justice for everyone in different scenarios.”
Covid 19 test before fights
“I believe the protocol for every single activity from now on will include screening. That’s obvious. I don’t know how, because right now Covid-19 is taking over the world. It’s everywhere. I believe, of course, before engaging in signing a contract for a fight it will be mandatory for you to have that test and your complete team. It’ll be complicated. The steps to move forward, I’m sure there will be a large check list for one jurisdiction so we can sanction a fight. As the WBC, we’ll be working with the commissions and working with the promoters, managers, trainers and boxers, and be as flexible and proactive as possible.”
