Anthony Joshua opponent Jarrell Miller has allegedly tested positive for the banned substance GW1516 ahead of his bout on June 1, it has been reported by ESPN here in New York.
The test was made by Vada, the voluntary anti-doping agency, and the sample, if positive and verified, could render Joshua’s USA debut against the 300lb American Miller in jeopardy.
The heavyweight contender from New York is said to have tested positive ahead of his challenge against the unified world titleholder Joshua in a random check.
Three sources were cited as confirming that the unbeaten Miller tested positive for the banned substance GW1516 in the test.
Miller is scheduled to fight Joshua at New York’s Madison Square Garden, but this is believed to stem from a random urine test from March 20.
Eddie Hearn told The Telegraph that the outcome of the test is not yet known, will require more details and will be “up to the (New York Athletic) commission” which is a statutory government department in the state of New York.
The promoter later said: “We have been informed by Vada that there has been an adverse finding in Jarrell Miller’s sample collected on March 20th, 2019.
“We are working with all relevant parties and will update with more details soon. AJ’s preparation continues for June 1st at MSG.”
